Pilsen to get new Radius music venue in 2020

A massive new concert venue is slated to open early next year in Pilsen.

The 3,800-seat Radius will be part of a 55,000-square-foot multipurpose event space, once the site of a steel factory at 640 Cermak, it was announced Wednesday. The capacity makes it one of the largest music venues in the area. The building’s exterior design features murals by Lefty Out There, Thank You X and NYCHOS.

The independently owned concert hall will feature state-of-the-art acoustics, nine full-service bars and artists’ lounge areas.

“We were looking for a scalable, multi-purpose venue space to house a state-of-the-art concert facility with modern art and design elements at the forefront, and we’ve created it with Radius,” said owner Nick Karounos, via statement. Karounos is has been a familiar player in Chicago’s music scene for more than 20 years, most notably as an owner and operator of Concord Music Hall, the MID and PRYSM Nightclub. “This project has been 4 years in the making and we are beyond excited to show Chicago and the rest of the world what we have built for music lovers of all genres.”

Dillon Francis performs at Lollapalooza in 2018. The artist will be the first headliner next year at the new Radius concert venue in Pilsen.

According to Wednesday’s announcement a 10,000 square foot multi-purpose event space called Cermak Hall will also be located on the site, to be used as “a pre- and post-concert space,” as well as weddings, conventions and corporate/private events.

  • King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (April 24)

Tickets go on sale at noon Friday at radius-chicago.com.
