Pilrig Street delays: Drivers urged to avoid area as lorry clears park flooding

Drivers are being urged to avoid Pilrig Street as teams work to clear flooding in the nearby park.

There are reports of slow traffic in both directions between Leith Walk and Bonnington Road.

A lorry has been in the area helping drain away the flooding in Pilrig Park brought on by the earlier heavy rainfall, and this is causing some restrictions.

Four-way traffic lights are currently also in operation at the Newhaven Road, Broughton Road and Bonnington Road junction. This is for a traffic signals upgrade.

These temporary lights will remain in place until next Friday (7 June).

Lothian Buses have said that service 11 is unable to serve Pilrig Street for the time being, and is instead diverted via Macdonald Road.

Some people have been tweeting urging people to avoid the area if posible.

David Montgomery said he was on a number 11 bus for around 25 minutes before they were diverted and it only moved 200 metres – with the area "super slow".

Edinburgh Travel News also tweeted: "We're hearing a lorry is assisting to draining flooding in Pilrig Park so traffic isn't able to get by very easily right now. The temporary lights are also now in place here."
