Pilots show their skills landing at Manchester Airport amid Storm Hannah winds

Walking around outside in the middle of a storm is sometimes a big task in itself - but trying to control a plane with hundreds of passengers on board takes a lot of skill.

And talented pilots have been at it again as they battled crosswinds as Storm Hannah hit Greater Manchester on Saturday, April 27.

Luckily, the city and the north west avoided the worst of the storm, turbulent weather still handed air staff a few elements to battle.

The video captured at the Manchester Airport shows pilots aboard flights, including Turkish Airlines, Air Portugal,  easyJet, Emirates and Ryanair, all tackle the more diverse weather and touch down safely on the runway.

Writing on his YouTube video description , AviationUpclose said: "Winds at MAN were steady at around 22 knots gusting up to 36 knots, offset from the centreline by about 60 degrees or so, and with about 20 degrees of variance either side.

"This paired with poor visibility and lashing rain showers made for interesting rocking approaches, have to say as always a fantastic display of piloting skill on show today."

Elsewhere over the weekend, and completely unrelated to the weather, two flights had to abort landing and complete a go-around - a completely safe and standard procedure - due to traffic being held up on the runway.

These were the FlyBe Dash 8 G-JECK from Aberdeen and the Vueling A320 EC-MEA from Barcelona.

The high winds are expected to die down on Sunday, April 28, as Storm Hannah's force lessens although it will continue to be cloudy with some rain. Temperatures are expected to rise but not beyond 13C.
