Pilot injured after light aircraft crashes near Monarto Zoo

The plane rests in a paddock at Monarto and the ATSB has been notified.

A light aircraft has crashed outside Monarto Zoo, about 60 kilometres east of Adelaide.

Police said the plane crashed at Monarto Road on the zoo's northern boundary near the chicken farm, Eagle Poultry, just before 10:20am.

"Upon arrival at the scene, police located the sole occupant of the single-seat aircraft — a man in his 70s — out of the plane with a minor head injury," police said in a statement.

"He has been taken to the Murray Bridge hospital for treatment."

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has been notified of the crash.

Police said they would assist ATSB with an investigation into what caused the incident.
