Pilot dies after helicopter crashes in field near Aldborough in North Yorkshire

A pilot has died after a helicopter crashed in a field in North Yorkshire.

Police said there were no other passengers on board the aircraft when it came down near Aldborough, close to Boroughbridge.

Rescue services first received reports of a crash in a crop field at around 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Fire and ambulance crews also attended and one man, believed to be the pilot, was pronounced dead at the scene, North Yorkshire Police said in a statement.

The force added: "Some officers remain at the scene and the Civil Aviation Authority is also at the scene, where it will carry out an investigation into the cause of the crash."

Police said they were not yet in a position to name the dead man.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue earlier said a number of engines from Boroughbridge, Knaresborough, Harrogate and Ripon had been sent to the area.

They said hoses were being used to “damp down the scene”.

A spokesman for the Air Accidents Investigation Branch confirmed inspectors have been to the scene to investigate the incident.
