Pilot and two passengers taken to hospital after light aircraft crash at Teesside Airport

A pilot and two passengers have been taken to hospital following an incident involving a light aircraft at Teesside Airport.

The airport confirmed the incident happened at 9.39am on Saturday morning and closed the runway will an investigation is carried out.

It is not yet known the full extent of the incident although a pilot and two passengers who were onboard the aircraft have been taken to hospital.

Teesside International Airport confirmed the runway remains closed until "further notice" and thanked the emergency services and on-site staff for their quick response.

A statement from Teesside International Airport confirmed: "We can confirm an incident occurred today involving a light aircraft at 09:39. A pilot and two passengers were onboard and have been taken to hospital.

"Our runway will remain closed until further notice while a thorough investigation is carried out.

"We would like to thank the emergency services, on-site staff for their quick response."

A spokesperson from Durham Police said: Officers are currently on scene at Teesside International Airport following an incident involving a light aircraft.

"The runway is currently closed while an investigation is carried out.
Please refer to the airport's social media pages for updates regarding its reopening."

The website Flightradar24 shows a flight from Farao, which had been due to land at Teesside, has been diverted to Newcastle.

Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed it has had no involvement in the incident so far.
