A 26-year-old pilot has died in a gyrocopter crash in western Queensland.
Police said Jack Joseland was mustering on a station at Yaraka, south of Longreach, just after 8:00am on Monday when the aircraft broke apart.
Inspector Julia Cook said witnesses rushed to Mr Joseland's aid.
"There were four other people mustering nearby, they heard the impact and were there very quickly," Insp. Cook said.
"But unfortunately when they got there it was too late, the pilot was deceased."
Insp. Cook said the loss will be felt across the region.
"It's a tragic incident," she said.
"It's something that's going to have an impact on the family, friends and the whole community."
Small, tight-knit community
Longreach Regional Council Mayor Tony Rayner said Mr Joseland came from a "very well respected family".
"He was just doing an everyday activity, and [it's] a very tragic accident, so our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends," he said.
Cr Raynor said he was confident the Yaraka will rally around M Joseland's friends and family to provide the support they need.
"The smaller the community the more well known everyone is and the more connected that they are," he said.
"We know that there will be strong support for the family.
"That's just the nature of the bush — we come together to help each other out at times like this."
