Pilgrims begin Hajj in Mecca amid heat and new restrictions

In the days ahead, worshippers will carry out rituals dating back over 1,400 years, despite challenging heat and tighter rules. With temperatures already reaching 41°C, authorities are urging caution, advising pilgrims to stay shaded and wear light, breathable clothing.

Children under 12 are banned this year, and unregistered pilgrims face fines as Riyadh tightens controls.

Although the journey is spiritual, the physical demands remain high, particularly after last year’s extreme heat led to over 1,300 deaths.
