Piles of rubbish left outside 'student homes' a 'rot continues'

Angry residents have declared that 'the rot continues' after grim piles of rubbish were left outside student houses in an area being blighted by anti-social behaviour.

The ECHO has been regularly raising the concerns and frustrations of people living in parts of south Liverpool like Picton and Greenbank, which have large numbers of student homes and shared housing.

People have been complaining about round-the-clock noise and parties and disruption as well as mess and rubbish being strewn around their local areas.

With the new term beginning and students arriving to live in these areas, it seems like the same problems are occurring.

The Lawrence Residents Action Group, which campaigns for residents in the Picton area, posted some images of grim scenes, blaming both inconsiderate students but also developers who they say are ruining their area with too many Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs).

The images show piles of rubbish strewn across alleyways, bins overflowing with waste and large household items left in back alleys.

The group said: "The rot continues. Picton ward cannot sustain the oversaturation of HMO’s.

"Developers continue to leave mess, bins overflowing as 6-8 students in one terraced house.

"As a result of HMO overdevelopment, families are forced to share overcrowded homes. Excess refuse is dumped."

In another post, the group more images of overflowing bins, with waste littered across the pavement.

They said: "And so it continues. Just one example of many, this lot has been dumped on the street outside a student HMO for days.

"The mentality of entitlement and expectation prevails."
