Pile of beds, toys and asbestos dumped in Bulwell street

Two vans were needed to remove a huge pile of fly-tipped waste from a residential street in Bulwell.

An assortment of mattresses, bed frames and asbestos were found dumped just off Mersey Street during the morning of Wednesday, August 19.

Councillor Ethan Radford, a city councillor who represented the Bulwell ward, said: "We needed two vans to clear this fly tipping on Mersey Street this morning, filling one of them completely.

"Three mattresses, bed frames, an animal hutch, kids' toys, tins of paint and asbestos.

"Repeat after me: Bulky waste collection is free."

The fine Nottingham City Council can hand out ranges from a £75 penalty for littering to £300 for fly-tipping.

Repeat and large-scale offenders can be prosecuted for up to £50,000 through the courts, but only in the most severe cases.

The council offers a free bulky waste collection and you can book a visit on their website.

Councillor Rebecca Langton, portfolio holder for communities at Nottingham City Council, added: "I don't like this at all, but thanks to the team for clearing it.

"[Councillor Radford] is absolutely right, there is 100% no need to fly-tip when bulky waste collection is free."
