PIL before Bombay HC seeks booster dose mechanism for all

MUMBAI: A city advocate has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) to seek proper disclosure of vaccine booster mechanism and swift implementation of the policy for all citizens.

The PIL is to be heard on Monday, once the Bombay high court reopens after the Christmas break.

The lawyer Dhruti Kapadia along with advocate Kunal Tiwari filed the PIL and said that while the Centre with its vaccination programme has ensured that many have received both the anti-Covid-19 jabs and rendered them ‘’feeling safer’’ but with the new variant now rapidly rearing its head and another wave hitting the country, the need for a third, booster dose is imperative.

The Centre has recently announced the roll out of third dose of Covid-19 vaccine for health and frontline workers as well as for those over 60 years of age with comorbidities from January 10, but the PIL intends to focus on a need to roll out mechanism for all those who have fully vaccinated themselves over six months ago to be able to queue up too.

World Health Organization recently supported development of vaccination strategies optimized for prevention of severe disease, including the targeted use of booster vaccination and experts observed that efficacy of the vaccine reduced after three month of receiving vaccine’s two doses which increases the chances of infection in person against the new variant, the PIL read.

The PIL added, “New vaccination policy for booster dose will decease the chances of severe infection due to Covid and may reduce hospitalisation.’’
