Freddie Mercury, Ibiza Rocks, Club Tropicana. And a literary festival.
Although incongruous-sounding, for the second year running Pikes Ibiza will be holding the Pikes Literary Festival. From 10th-12th September, the renowned hotel will play host to writers including Irvine Welsh, Linda Quinn and Libertines front-man Carl Barat.
Guests will be able to attend writing courses, panel discussions with the authors, plus book and poetry readings. And, for the first time, there will be a day dedicated to the Spanish language, as Ibiza resident and author Ana Olivia Fiol Mateu takes over for specialist classes.
The cultural range extends further than books; there will be an open-air cinema, with screenings of the 1979 drama Quadrophenia, in celebration of its 40th anniversary, followed by a Q&A with one of the film’s stars, Leslie Ash, and of the new Spanish documentary De Donde No Se Vuelve.
The opening night of the festival will also host a ‘Blacks takeover’ dinner, held by Luke Thomas, owner of Soho’s Blacks Private Members Club. "The menu for my dinner at Pikes is inspired by my travels," Black says of the dinner. "It’s underpinned by locally sourced products; a few nostalgic flavours adapted to create a sharing supper club experience."
Early-bird tickets are from €25 per day, and from €40 for a three-day ticket.
