Piers Morgan wishes peace to all his 'haters' after lengthy Meghan Markle diatribe

Piers Morgan has wished peace on his most fearsome critics.

The former GMB frontman and professional motormouth is no stranger to controversy, but his remarks about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have sparked a huge backlash.

His final GMB saw him walk off-set in a huff after clashing with colleague Alex Beresford over the former royals, and that evening ITV confirmed he would no longer be presenting.

But Piers has stood by his remarks, and clashed with a number of "haters" in the Twitter-sphere.

Piers made the most of the sunshine and snapped a selfie wearing a daisy chain, writing: "To my haters: peace out."

His coverage of Harry and Meghan's interview had included casting doubt on the veracity of a number of claims made by the couple.

These included Meghan's that she had struggled with suicidal thoughts.

This led to his clash with Alex and subsequent walk-out - in what has become the most complained about TV episode ever.

The morning after his exit was announced, Piers told reporters that conversations with ITV had been "amicable", and that he stood by his remarks.

He added: "I'm just going to take it easy and see how we go.

"I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion. If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that's entirely their right.

"I don't believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.

"If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it.

"I think it's fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they've cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge.

"I would call it a temporary hibernation."
