Piers Morgan wages war on NHS parking tickets as staff still being are fined while on duty

Piers Morgan has promised to "wage war" on NHS parking tickets after being left outraged by the fact that hard-working staff are still being fined while on duty, many fighting the frontline battle against coronavirus.

Back in March, the week after the UK was put on lockdown, Piers was left so incensed on finding out that NHS staff had been slammed by fines whilst at work that he asked any staff who had received a ticket to send them to him via Good Morning Britain and he'd pay them.

And, giving an update to GMB viewers about the fines on Thursday's show, Piers said: "You may remember that I offered to pay for doctors and nurses who got parking tickets during the crisis, I said I would pay and then within 24 hours the government said that they were going to stop people being charged.

"I have had a lot of people write to me, and I said that what I would do rather than just pay them is fight the fight with every single one of the authorities trying to charge them."

Piers thanked his PA Tracy for her work in responding to letters but said he was angered that some NHS staff are now receiving follow-up letters demanding payment.

He raged: ""Some of them have moved to the second stage of increased payment and we are writing back: 'Do you really want to do this?'"

"We've had no reply to an email sent asking if they'd be happy to be on the record fining a doctor who was on call

during the crisis.

"So, just to let you know, the battle continues. There will be a proper update, I will name and shame all those who want payments, and I will write cheques - none of the people who wrote to me will pay.

"I want to wage war individually on every one of these tickets, I'll update you when the war is over."
