Piers Morgan vows revenge on Meghan Markle as he accuses her of 'downright lies'

Piers Morgan accused Meghan Markle of "downright lies" as he spoke about their feud in a new television interview.

Despite his insistence that he isn't obsessed with the Duchess of Sussex, the former Good Morning Britain star is set to appear on Australian television to talk about the row which saw him step down from his role on the ITV show.

Piers famously left the daytime programme after refusing to apologise for his comments about Meghan and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Most notably, he said he didn't believe her when she said she had struggled with suicidal thoughts while she was pregnant with baby Archie.

And when members of the public expressed how much the comments had upset them - in a time when conversations about mental health are more prominent than ever - Piers was told he must apologise.

But explaining that he wasn't willing to go back on his words, he left the show with immediate effect.

Some have accused him of being obsessed with Meghan, and some have suggested that he's simply bitter that they were once friends but drifted apart after she met Prince Harry.

Piers, who denies all those things, says his problem with Meghan is the "downright lies" she's told.

In a trailer for 60 Minutes, which sees him interviewed by host Karl Stefanovic, Piers took aim at Meghan's comment about her and Harry secretly marrying days before their multi-million pound public wedding.

Of course, her claim was later proven to be inaccurate, with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby confirming that no official documents were signed.

In his new TV appearance, Piers says: "They were downright lies.

"I don't believe a word she says. That [ceremony] would make the Archbishop of Canterbury a criminal."

The interview could make for explosive viewing, as host Karl has been one of Piers' biggest critics when it comes to his comments about Meghan.

In 2018, during their royal tour of Australia, Karl slammed Piers after he questioned Meghan's alienation from her family and accused her of pretending to be in love with Harry.

Karl said at the time: "I've got something to say about that. I think that's disgraceful. I think she is an amazing, amazing woman.

"I think she is doing her very best at the moment, and she's got a lot on her plate. She's doing it so beautifully - she's such a great export for Great Britain."

Piers quit GMB just hours after he stormed off over a row about Meghan (PA)

Talking about Piers, he added: "I mean, what is that guy on? He's lost the plot completely.

"I don't know how his poor co-host puts up with it. Imagine putting up with a dude like that who is so up himself and so egotistical that he would assume to say those things about her.

"It's disgusting. You wouldn't put up with it. He needs to go. He's off the mark here."

Piers has now vowed revenge on Meghan and Harry, also taking aim as the "woke" people who are trying to get him cancelled.

He said: "Freedom of speech is actually more important than the Meghan Markle debacle.

"Who are these 'woke' people marching around like they are Kim Jong-un with a dash of Vladimir Putin.

"Come on everybody, take a chill pill."

And Karl asked him: "Are you going to take one?"

The interview is set to air in Australia on Sunday night.
