Piers Morgan unleashes wrath at 'covidiot' England footballers Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden

Piers Morgan let rip at a pair of England footballers who broke the quarantine rules, branding them "covidiots".

Mason Greenwood, 18, and Phil Foden, 20, have been  accused of breaking Iceland's strict quarantine rules after having girls in a hotel bedroom.

Consequently, England boss Gareth Southgate confirmed that the duo have been dropped and would not travel with the rest of the England squad from Iceland to Denmark on Monday afternoon ahead of England's Nations League group game.

Addressing their actions on GMB today, Piers raged: "They're young men who knew the rules... why was there not enough security to protect them for themselves?"

"They're living the dream for teenagers and young people," Piers said. "And now they're going to miss their first game because they have to be shamed."

Piers also questioned how their actions could have had a worrying impact on other staff, pointing out that there were also older staff working for England.

He added: "They're covidiots."

This comes after Piers also grumbled on Twitter on Monday about their actions, writing: "Their selfish reckless stupidity is bad, obviously.

But how were they able to do this? Footballers need babysitting - by security guards - to protect them from themselves.”

Piers was responding to a tweet by Times reporter Martin Ziegler, which read: “Phil Foden + Mason Greenwood will not travel with rest of England squad from Iceland to Denmark this afternoon after breaking bubble in Reykjavik with girls.

“Gareth Southgate to confirm shortly.”

Greenwood and Foden’s “recklessness” has been condemned by their respective clubs,  Manchester United  and Manchester City.

Icelandic outlet  DV   claim to have Snapchat videos from two girls who met the England pair at the team’s hotel.

England's players have been under strict rules during their time in Iceland, which included some exemptions for elite sports, according to DV.

The outlet reported: “According to the terms of the exemption, the players were not to meet anyone outside of their own team members outside of the field and were only allowed to go to practices and games.

“The rules the players were subject to have been confirmed by KSI, Iceland’s national Football Federation.

"According to DV’s source, the players were not even allowed to meet their families.”

The pair will now be left behind in Iceland while the England team head to Copenhagen for Tuesday's Nations League match.
