Piers Morgan tracks down 'four lads in jeans' from viral meme who are flooded with abuse

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid spoke to a group of friends who became a viral meme after a photo emerged of them on a night out.

The image, shows Alex Lacey, Connor Humpage, Kevin Rooney, and Jamie Phillips enjoying drinks at All Bar One and Slug and Lettuce.

However, the photo resurfaced on social media pages, with many people editing it or adding out of context captions.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the men from Birmingham and Coventry explained despite the success of the meme, they have received torrents of abuse.

Kevin said: "When the photo was taken we uploaded it on our Instagrams, it was fine.

"And then after three or four months, we started seeing memes about us, just mocking us and literally we have just been getting hate for the past year.

"Only until sort of now, the last couple of weeks, it's suddenly all turned and we are getting a lot of love."

Asked why the photo would cause people to mock them, Alex added: "The tight trousers obviously...I bought them that day."

However, Alex, who was the target of a lot of the abuse, said the viral image took a big hit on his mental health.

He said: "My work number actually got released so I started getting loads of prank calls - that really affected me.

"With personal and work you want to keep it separate and it just got really personal so it did have a massive effect on my mental state to be quite honest.

"I had to even come off social media because they even went into my mum's comments, leaving troll comments, it wasn't nice."
