Piers Morgan to take extended break from Good Morning Britain over summer

Piers Morgan has revealed he'll soon be taking a break from Good Morning Britain after a very memorable few months.

While he's never been one to shy away from controversy, the outspoken host has been particularly prolific at dividing opinion over lockdown, thanks to some heated clashes with Government ministers and other GMB guests including Dizzee Rascal, New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and a lawyer representing George Floyd cop Thomas Lane.

Last week it was revealed that Piers took just four days to attract 312 objections at the end of June, but he will soon be absent from our screens, with co-host Susanna Reid also set to be missing in action for an extended period.

The pair was last absent from screens for a week at the end of May, during what should have been school half term, and on Monday's GMB, while talking about colleague Kate Garraway, Piers let slip that they'll soon be taking some more time off.

He told viewers: "We're going to talk to Kate on Wednesday before we go off for the summer.

"She's going to have something more to say about this but it's certainly premature at the moment to think that Derek isn't in any way out of the woods, sadly, on this and he remains in a very serious critical condition."

Reacting to the announcement, one viewer tweeted: "Only two more days and you and Susanna are on your summer break. You’re hoping to get away this weekend? Enjoy your holiday...."
