Piers Morgan to face Sir Keir Starmer for Life Stories as he discovers 'man behind the politician'

Sir Keir Starmer is set to sit down with Piers Morgan for an episode of Life Stories.

ITV has said the hour-long chat will give a "rare and fascinating insight into the man behind the politician".

The Labour leader will sit down with the controversial journalist next month and will air on ITV in the coming months.

Sir Keir is only the second party leader to appear on Life Stories, the first being when Piers interviewed Gordon Brown when he was Prime Minister, in 2010.

The episode will see Sir Keir reflect on his childhood in Surrey as the second of four children, his career in law – which earned him a knighthood - as well as his family life.

The chat will also discuss his move into politics, culminating in his appointment as Labour leader in April 2020 and how Sir Keir has spent the last year leading his party in lockdown from his spare room.

Piers said: "It's very unusual for party political leaders to submit themselves to such lengthy personal interviews and I am delighted that Sir Keir has agreed to talk to me about his fascinating life.

Sir Keir will swap the Commons for an ITV studio (PA)

"It promises to be a memorable and very revealing Life Stories show."

Since first airing more than a decade ago, Piers has sat down with the likes of Sir Captain Tom Moore, Simon Cowell, Dame Joan Collins, Sir Elton John, Spice Girl Mel B and Sir Cliff Richard to name a few.

The interview is likely to mark Piers' return to ITV after he dramatically left his role on Good Morning Britain in March.
