Piers Morgan tests negative for coronavirus and gives update on GMB return

Piers Morgan has tested negative for coronavirus after coming down with symptoms over the weekend.

The former newspaper editor, 55, took a day off work at Good Morning Britain as a "precaution" and managed to get tested for Covid-19.

He has now had the results back, and shared the update with his Twitter followers.

He posted: "My COVID-19 test was negative. I was advised to take the test by my doctor after developing possible coronavirus symptoms, and was entitled to do so as a Govt-designated essential worker.

"I'll be back on @GMB as soon as my doctor advises I'm OK to return to work," he added.

On Sunday, Piers told fans he'd have to take a step back from GMB after suffering mild symptoms and was awaiting the result of a test.

He tweeted: "UPDATE: On medical advice, and out of an abundance of caution for a mild symptom that arose in past 48hrs...

"I've had a test for COVID-19 and so won’t be working on @GMB until I get the result back, which should be tomorrow."

Piers didn't go into what symptoms he had experienced, but did reveal he was going by medical advice.

His colleague Susanna Reid was forced to miss two weeks of GMB in March, after her son came down with a cough.

She soon returned, and Piers upped his appearance on the show to four days a week.

On this morning's show, Pies was replaced by Ben Shephard, who introduced the show saying: "As you can see, I'm not Piers!"

"Yes, it's therapeutic," Susanna quipped.

Susanna added: "We send our very best wishes and we'll be on our best behaviour while he's not here."

Meanwhile Dr Hilary Jones revealed that he spoke to Piers last night and revealed he didn't have many symptoms typical of coronavirus but was being cautious.
