Piers Morgan ordered Dan Walker to "stop blubbering" as he told him he'll be joining him on BBC Breakfast as a replacement for Louise Minchin.
Louise dropped a bombshell on Tuesday morning when she told viewers that she was walking away from the show after two decades on its famous sofa.
She told people watching at home she was looking forward to not having to get up at 3.40am every day to do BBC Breakfast as she thanked them for their lasting support.
Co-host Dan was gutted by Louise's news and told his Twitter followers he was wondering what he was going to do without her.
He posted: ""This feels like a break-up
"What am I going to do without Louise?
"Thank you for all the lovely messages after an emotional morning on #BBCBreakfast - I’m sure Louise will get to read them all later.
"My life will be poorer without her on the sofa. She’s the best."
Never afraid of winding Dan up, with the two trading Twitter blows on numerous occasions when he hosted BBC Breakfast's ITV rival Good Morning Britain, Piers reacted in his usual outspoken style.
The Life Stories presenter tweeted: "Stop blubbing Dan - I start Monday. BBC wanted the guy who beat you in the ratings, and the first same-sex male breakfast presenting team to appease the wokies."
One of Piers' followers told him: "I hope this is true!! If you’re just winding Dan up I’ll be gutted!!" and another reacted: "Now that I would love to see, however I'm sure you're too opinionated for the BBC"
Others took aim at Piers' boast about beating the BBC in the ratings, pointing out it happened once, ironically on the day he quit the show, while others didn't like his use of the term 'wokies,' responding: "You realise when you say things like “wokies” it’s not actually an insult.
"We rather proud of the fact we haven’t been going through life with our eyes shut!"
