Piers Morgan teases announcement after tweeting he 'can't make it' for GMB

Piers Morgan has teased an announcement on social media on Wednesday.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter has taken to Twitter to build anticipation for big personal news before and now appears to be doing so again.

Posting on Twitter on Wednesday, Piers shared a GIF of a ticking grandfather clock with the words “tick-tock” appearing on the clock.

The previous time he tweeted in such a manner was prior to the announcement that he was departing Good Morning Britain.

Piers’ exit from the show in March followed controversial remarks made about Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, of whom Piers has been a longtime vocal critic.

When criticised by Alex Beresford for his persistent criticism of the Duchess, Piers briefly walked off the set of the show before returning to finish what would be his last episode.

Broadcasting regulator Ofcom received 57,000 complaints about Piers’ remarks, while the Duchess herself made a formal complaint to ITV.

On Tuesday night, Piers’ former co-star Susanna Reid teased her return to Good Morning Britain after her summer break.

Piers Morgan told Susanna Reid he "couldn't make it" for her Good Morning Britain return on Twitter on Tuesday night (Twitter)

Sharing a new promo video for Good Morning Britain in September, Susanna penned on Twitter: “See you all tomorrow! [sun emoji] @gmb ”.

The video tweet had read: “Start your day off right and join the #GMB team for a new season this September.”

In response, Piers quoted the tweet before penning to Susanna: “Sorry.. can’t make it.”

In response to his latest tease of an announcement, Piers’ followers speculated about what he could announce.

One person replied to the tweet: “The last time you tweeted this you were announcing your exit from GMB, waiting for you to announce the return.”

“Working for a rival to @gmb,” predicted another Twitter user.

Meanwhile, another follower of Piers’ tweeted: “Och you're a big tease! You're either the Queen's new horologist or you're going to be back on TV, sooner rather than later one hopes!”

*Good Morning Britain airs on weekday mornings from 6am to 9am on ITV with past episodes on ITV Hub.
