Piers Morgan tears into James Cleverly over doctored video in explosive GMB interview

Good Morning Britain descended into chaos this morning as Piers Morgan savagely attacked the Tories' chairman over an allegedly 'doctored' video.

James Cleverly appeared on the ITV breakfast show to defend a video the Conservatives released of Labour's Keir Starmar on GMB the previous day.

In the video, it's presented as though Keir was unable to answer a question on why he thought the EU would give Labour a good deal, if there was a chance they'd campaign for a second referendum anyway.

Several seconds of silence and Keir's blank expressions is played in the video to illustrate "Labour has no plan for Brexit."

The actual interview on the show however saw Keir answer that question immediately and give an answer.

After repeatedly showing the actual video and the Tories' doctored clip, Morgan blasted James Cleverly's "shameless" refusal to accept the video was edited and therefore misleading.

The video allegedly doctored by Tories of Kier Starmer interviewed on GMB over Brexit

"You seem completely unconcerned," he raged at the Tory HQ chief. "The Conservative Party website, the official one, posted a fake video, that had a fake moment that never happened, on TV.

"If you're prepared to do that on day one of a campaign, why should we believe any video or anything that you guys put up?"

Tory candidate Johnny Mercer apologised last night on Twitter after sharing the video.

However, James Cleverly insisted: "The official Conservative Campaign HQ  Twitter  account put out your video.

"What we did is because we wanted to make sure the video was short and punchy we had to take out an awful lot of the waffle."

Ultimately, the two were unable to agree with each other and the fiery argument came to end.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
