Piers Morgan gets staggering 1,645 Ofcom complaints in five days over political grillings

Outspoken Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan has been hit by yet another flood of Ofcom complaints.

The 55 year old, who co-presents GMB with Susanna Reid, has stacked up 1,645 complaints in just five days over his notoriously brutal interviews with government ministers over the coronavirus crisis.

Between 22nd and 27th April, Ofcom received the complaints from viewers, some of which accused him of "bullying", especially over his conduct with Helen Whately and Matt Hancock.

Receiving almost 4000 complaints in total, he was recently cleared by the broadcasting regulator.

Ofcom justified their decision as they ruled "that broadcasters are able to hold those making political decisions to account."

Piers wrote afterwards: "I'm glad that freedom of speech matters. Journalists doing their jobs matter. Holding them to account matters."

He added: "We do our jobs, they do theirs - but we are all on the same side here, and you shouldn't equate challenging governments to wanting the government to fail.

"We are on the same side, against the same enemy - this is not an election, it is not a referendum, so you shouldn't criticise journalists for doing their job.

"It's what we are supposed to be doing."

During his grilling of Helen Whately MP, Piers accused her of laughing as he showed her a newspaper front page reporting fear that 4000 had died in UK care homes from the bug.

"Why are you laughing? What's the matter with you?" he demanded, as Ms Whately explained she wasn't.

He went on to claim that coronavirus testing was limited to politicians and celebs - rather than healthcare workers fighting coronavirus on the frontline.

"Whether you're Boris Johnson, whether you're Matt Hancock, whether you're Chris Whitty himself, the Chief Medical Officer, whether you're Michael Gove and his daughter," he slammed, "There's clearly a priority being given to politicians, and there has been for celebrities, and it has not been given to the frontline health workers and care workers who most desperately need it."

He continued to accuse her of not prioritising healthcare workers with regard to the tests.
