Piers Morgan takes savage swipe at Strictly final as Rose Ayling-Ellis wins

While the nation was in the enthralling grip of the Strictly Come Dancing final on the BBC, Piers Morgan was not having as much fun with his viewing of the show.

The 56-year-old former Good Morning Britain presenter was not feeling the emotions, which were running high as deaf EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis won the Glitterball Trophy along with her pro partner, Giovanni Pernice.

In fact, the final which saw historic same sex couple, Bake Off's John Whaite and pro dancer Johannes Radebe, getting pipped for the top prize, was proving to be a big turn-off for Piers.

Not known to mince his words, the controversial TV presenter shared a being sick emoji as he described how he felt about the Strictly finale.

Taking to Twitter, Piers wrote: "Tuned into #Strictly for the first time in years and everyone’s crying because everyone’s so perfect. Sorry, but [sick emoji]"

He was soon hit with a barrage of replies who felt he was out of order for being so dismissive of the Strictly fare being served up.

One angry commenter replied: "Perhaps if you had paid a bit more attention you will see how the programme has educated people on disability and sexuality isn’t it nice in these troubled times to actually have something that is so beautiful!"

Another felt that Piers was out of order, tweeting: "I’ll take watching soppy strictly perfection tonight Piers. We are currently living in a world of hate, anger & to be frank it’s s***. It’s taken peoples minds off this pandemic for a couple of hours."

While a third wrote that this was the perfect ending for an inspiring series, tweeting: "The entire series has been a shining example of joy, togetherness and humanity. Everything that you don’t represent."

Not everyone was down on Piers though, with one viewer agreeing that it was all a bit self-congratulating, tweeting: "I love Strictly but was thinking the same…too much gushing over each other tonight!"

The odds on Piers performing on the Strictly dancefloor next year? Pretty long it would seem after this little outburst.
