Piers Morgan takes cheap shot at BBC's Dan Walker over breakfast TV ratings

Piers Morgan took a swing at Dan Walker as he announced that BBC Breakfast is the most watched breakfast show on telly.

Good Morning Britain host Piers couldn't help but have a dig as Dan shared a snap of the whole BBC Breakfast team and shared the exciting news.

"Thanks for all your comments about #BBCBreakfast so far this week," Dan tweeted.

"We really appreciate you tuning in, particularly at the moment, and making us the number one breakfast show on TV - by some distance.

"Thanks for watching. @TVNaga01 & Charlie are back tomorrow from 6am."

Piers took aim as he retweeted the post and claimed the gap between BBC Breakfast and GMB was closing.

"Factcheck: a much smaller distance than when Dan joined..." he scolded, "In fact, this week we closed the gap to the smallest distance ever.

"Please don't get fired mate!"

Piers has doubled down on his brand of brutal interviews, fiery debates and opinionated rants amid the coronavirus crisis.

His coverage of lockdown and the pandemic has seen his fume over the government's alleged "boycott" of GMB.

Piers has claimed several times that government ministers are refusing to appear on the show following several "train wreck" interviews.

Ofcom was flooded with 3,200 complaints after his showdown with Care Minister Helen Whately, and a further 600 after Health Secretary Matt Hancock appeared on the show.

Piers was cleared by Ofcom, the regulator ruling that he did nothing wrong and is "well known for his combative style."

"Viewers would expect him to challenge senior politicians and hold them to account," they added.

Piers' BBC Breakfast comments are not the first time he's taken a jab at Dan.

After Love Island star Josh Denzel seemed to drop the F-bomb on Football Focus, Dan tweeted that following an investigation, they had ruled he didn't say it.

Piers was having none of it, hitting back: "Stop digging that hole, Inspector Walker - we all heard what he said."
