Piers Morgan takes aim at Chris Whitty over Good Morning Britain snub

Piers Morgan has taken aim at Chris Whitty over Good Morning Britain snub.

England's Chief Medical Officer made time to be interviewed on the BBC but skipped Piers' GMB programme on Monday as the UK suffered a record numbers of coronavirus cases and deaths.

Piers tweeted: "Very disappointing to see Professor Whitty @CMO_England take airtime from every broadcaster for his coronavirus warning messages - then hand the BBC a whole morning of exclusive interviews."

His comments came as Prof Whitty warned the next few weeks will be "the worst of the pandemic" and said lockdown may need to be extended until the spring.

Prof Whitty also told BBC Radio 4's Today programme people should think about wearing a mask in busy outdoor places like queues and market stalls.

He said it “is a risk” when people are “huddled together”, even when it is outdoors. However he added that the risks from, for example, jogging past someone were "very low”.

Current guidance does not say people need to wear masks in busy outdoor public spaces.

But despite Piers' angry tweet, his followers ignored his message and instead took aim at him - with multiple complaints about his recent admission he chose to spend Christmas in Antigua.

One responded: "He probably thought talking to someone that had recently broken the spirit of the lockdown wasn't a good idea. He's not alone."

And another wrote: "Makes Cummings drive to Barnard Castle look like a stroll round the garden doesn't it. Absolute hypocrite."

Yet another blasted: "You’ve been great through the pandemic and I have a lot of respect for you. If the Antigua holiday thing is true then sadly you’ve driven a horse and cart through your credibility. Makes me really sad that you did that."
