Piers Morgan was taken off air after challenging his Good Morning Britain boss.
The presenter, 54, joked that director Erron Gordon needed to be “put back in his box” after weather girl Laura Tobin was branded “boring”.
Tobin was midway through an explanation on why a glacier collapsed in Iceland when Gemma Collins’ famous “boring” catchphrase was played over the top.
Morgan took aim at Gordon, telling viewers: “This is the trouble with the director. He’s going a bit rouge. We need to put him back in his box. See how many ratings you get with your test card. Go on. You see – doesn’t dare do it.”
Keen to take on Morgan, the test card flashed up on screen but was removed within 12 seconds after Morgan joked it was “actively costing us viewers”.
On returning to screens he branded Gordon “utterly gutless”.
Morgan continued to goad Gordon on Twitter, posting, “he blinked,” to which Gordon replied: “Only because I want to get paid this month.”
The TV star also used Tuesday’s show to make clear his stance on the ongoing Spice Girls claims.
Morgan said he is firmly team Mel B, despite Geri Horner disputing her claims that the two slept together during the group’s heyday.
“Mel B’s furious reaction to Geri’s furious denial… what makes it a little bit spicy is that rehearsals start in about 10 days and then the tour starts in less than two months,” he said.
“On a positive note ratings for Life Stories are going to be absolutely gigantic. You know what? I believe Mel B. There I said it. I believe Mel B.”
