Piers Morgan stops GMB weather to make Laura Tobin play flute - but it ends in disaster

Piers Morgan interrupted Good Morning Britain's weather report today to force Laura Tobin to play her flute.

The GMB presenter attempted to hit back at his BBC Breakfast rivals after Owain Wyn Evans played the theme tune on his drums while in lockdown at home.

Refusing to be outdone, Piers asked Laura if she could play a musical instrument and made her go upstairs to get her flute.

Stopping her weather report and taking off her microphone, Laura said: "It's upstairs in the bedroom . I could be a while. Have we got a break or something?"

Piers said: "We’ll come back to you. Get the flute. we need something to hit back at BBC Breakfast.

"I’m not having BBC breakfast being more musically accomplished. There's nothing we should be able to do that we cant match and beat.

"I’ve got every confidence Laura will turn out to be a world class flutist."

However, Piers' plan backfired when they went back to Laura for her performance moments later.

When Laura claimed her flute should work, Piers replied: "I assume the flute works, it's whether you can play it."

Laura confessed she had not played for four years - and Susanna Reid's face said it all when she hit a bum note.

Applauding her, Piers said: "You know what, it was better than nothing, marginally."

Laura added: "I'd just like to apologise to my husband for waking him up - he is not happy."

Good Morning Britain viewers took to Twitter after listening to Laura playing her flute.

One viewer said: "Ffs Laura how long does it take to get a flute out of the box .. and then you couldn't play it lol ... the only time BBC Breakfast will win!"

"Well that was underwhelming @piersmorgan," added another.

A third said: "Stunning Laura , you will fill the Albert Hall with those skills"

"God this is embarrassing.. think we can say the whole flute thing back fired on piers and him trying to laugh it off is cringe," said a fourth.
