Piers Morgan 'still under contract' at GMB as he longs for TV return

Piers Morgan has revealed he is still under contract at Good Morning Britain as he wished to make a TV comeback to deal with the fallout of Dominic Cummings' explosive allegations against the Government.

On Wednesday morning, Cummings, Boris Johnson's former aide, gave evidence to the Commons Health and Social Care and Science and Technology Committees in a lengthy hearing.

In it, as well as saying that the PM regarded coronavirus as "the new swine flu," even alleging that he'd offered to be injected with it live on TV, Cummings said that health secretary Matt Hancock "should have been fired" for a whole host of failures.

Reacting to the damning accusations, Piers tweeted: "I'd like to sincerely apologise for the way I held the Govt to account during this Pandemic.

It's quite clear from Cummings' shocking testimony that I should have gone much much harder. Sorry."

He later added: "Wish I was on TV tomorrow morning. The Govt needs torching after this #Cummings testimony."

It was Piers ' response to a fan's reply that caused a big reaction. The follower tweeted: "The whole nation wish you were on TV tomorrow morning Piers. Perhaps GMB can invite you on as a guest presenter for the one day. That would be amazing."

And Piers, who quit GMB in March after storming out of an argument with Alex Beresford, then wrote back: "It would.. and I'm still technically under contract to present @GMB."

While GMB's producer Erron Gordon liked the tweet, there was no place for Piers behind the GMB desk on Thursday, with old presenting partner in crime Susanna Reid hosting alongside Ben Shephard.

Longing for his return, one fan reacted: "Yeah, come on @GMB I’ve not watched it since he left. Like Piers or not, we tuned in for the drama and watching politicians squirm."

Also including GMB's handle in their tweet, another wrote: "Wake up ITV! Piers Morgan is the best presenter! That brings in the viewers, makes the morning a lot better it hear him putting the world to rights
