Piers Morgan spends £800 on wine over boozy lunch before playing round of golf

Piers Morgan didn't appear to be letting his untimely departure from Good Morning Britain get him down as he posted a pic of eye-wateringly expensive wine which he guzzled before a round of golf.

Sharing the post on Instagram he wrote: "Not the best preparation for closing day in my Scotland golf battle - but what’s the point of living life if it’s not la dolce vita?

"And trust me, vita doesn’t get much more dolce than guzzling these two beauties... fabulous dinner at Little Italy in St Andrew’s , thanks to Dino and his wonderful staff for a memorable meal."

The wine, which sells for a whopping £395 a pop at posh food shop Fortnum and Mason met with the approval of the journalist's followers with one commenting: "The best" followed by a heart emoji.

The outspoken presenter was spotted on a golf course in Fife yesterday following rumours of a return to the show to the ITV breakfast show.

Piers, who is a huge fan of the sport, looked relaxed as he posed with a golf club in front of Kingsbarns, which is widely considered to be one of Scotland's finest courses.

The 56-year-old famously quit Good Morning Britain in March after refusing to apologise for comments he made about Meghan Markle.

He had stormed off set after rowing with co-star Alex Beresford, who had defended the Duchess of Sussex and blasted Piers' comments.

However for the first time in months, Piers seems desperate to return following Dominic Cummings ' savage remarks about the government.

In seven hours' worth of explosive testimony yesterday, Cummings accused Health Secretary Matt Hancock of "lying repeatedly" and accused Prime Minister Boris Johnson of being unfit for the job.

"Tens of thousands died that didn't need to die," Cummings told MPs yesterday, with calls for an inquiry growing.

Responding to Cummings yesterday, Piers demanded Hancock's resignation if the claims are true.

He tweeted: "If what Cummings says about @MattHancock is true, the Health Secretary must resign. Never heard a more devastating evisceration of a senior Govt minister."

The former host also added: "Wish I was on TV tomorrow morning. The Govt needs torching after this #Cummings testimony."

One fan seemed desperate for the host's return tweeting: 'The whole nation wish you were on TV this morning'.

He wrote: "It would.. and I'm still technically under contract to present @GMB..."

Yet, despite the tweets being liked by GMB director Erron Gordon, Piers was snubbed from the show.

Instead Susanna Reid was joined by Ben Shephard at her side and the pair discussed the Cummings debacle with Kate Garraway, Ranvir Singh and Dr Hilary Jones.
