Piers Morgan sparks fears after coughing fit on return to Good Morning Britain from holiday

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan gave his co-stars a shock after joking he had contracted coronavirus during his holidays.

The 54-year-old presenter has just returned from a trip in the United States, where he took some time off for the February half term.

Piers was showing off some gifts he had received from viewers to celebrate his return, including a pink tie and a woolly hat.

Susanna Reid admitted: "I'm rather ashamed I haven't got you a present on your return."

Piers then agreed, saying: "Thank god for the viewers because otherwise I'd get nothing, no love at all from the room."

The host then began to cough, and Susanna got slightly worried.

She said: "Can I just say that you're coughing a little bit. I'm not that keen on those symptoms."

Co-host Charlotte Hawkins then asked: "Are you ok?"

"Coronavirus," joked Piers, with Susanna still looking concerned.

She added: "You do know the advice, don't you?

"You're supposed to cough into a tissue and then throw the tissue away."

"And wash your hands and sing God Save The Queen," continued Piers.

Susanna said: "No, sing Happy Birthday."

Piers added: "It's a serious thing. Let me tell you, whatever they're all saying, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

"This is going to be a global thing, because this is the purest embodiment of globalisation, the world is a tiny place."
