Piers Morgan slams US gun culture after black man is gunned down by police in Atlanta

Piers Morgan slammed American gun culture after a black man was gunned down by police in Atlanta last week.

Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot and killed by police after they found him asleep in a car at Wendy's.

His death led to mass protests and the resignation of a police chief after a video of Rayshard being gunned down emerged.

Giving his opinion of the shooting on Good Morning Britain today, Piers Morgan said that it was "very different" to the George Floyd case.

"Guns is the problem in that new video that I've seen," Piers said. "Where there's a presumption by police, and by the public, that everyone's got a gun.

"And so a minor thing like an arrest for potentially [driving] under the influence, he sort of admitted he had been, it's all quite polite and civilised.

"Then suddenly there's a trigger, literally, where something happens, there's a scuffle and then there's a gun on both sides and then there's a deadly confrontation.

"It's so unnecessary. Here, that kind of confrontation wouldn't happen, it wouldn't lead to somebody dying.

"There wouldn't be that presumption of someone having a gun and I always say this about America - gun culture causes so many deaths like that, where the police just... I don't know what was in their minds."

Susanna Reid added: "I think he grabbed a taser, apparently."

"Maybe they thought it was a real gun, who knows," Piers said. "Again, it's just that terror - that paranoia which exists there. The tiniest little thing can suddenly be a deadly battle.

"It's awful."
