Piers Morgan has launched a stinging attack on Arsenal following the announcement that they will be making 55 staff redundant.
The Gunners released a statement on Wednesday confirming that they were being forced to cut costs in light of the coronavirus crisis, and a number of scouts and backroom staff are among those being let go.
The club have received heavy criticism since the news broke, with many supporters pointing out that their owner Stan Kroenke is worth an estimated £6.32bn and that their highest-earning players, such as Mesut Ozil, take home £350,000-a-week.
Morgan took to Twitter on Thursday morning to express his outrage at the decision.
He said: " Arsenal firing 55 staff when we're owned by a multi-billionaire, have just made £££ by winning the FA Cup & qualifying for Europe, & pay Mesut Ozil £350,000-a-week to sit on his a***, is morally indefensible & not what I expect from a club with our heritage. Shameful decision."
Arsenal's senior players are said to want talks with the club’s hierarchy as they want to know why jobs are being slashed when the squad agreed to a 12.5percent pay cut - reduced to 7.5 percent following Europa League qualification - in April.
That action, the players believed, would lead to a situation where such a nightmare scenario would not arise.
Instead the Gunners are enduring backlash with legend Ian Wright another one warning the club that feelings are running high over the issue.
"Remember who you are, what you are and who you represent!!!" said a message from his account accompanied by three upset emojis.
Some of the club’s players are understood to have made contact with those affected by the proposed cuts.
Transfer business will remain unaffected, however, with the club set to sign free agent Willian on £150,000-a-week on a three-year deal with the option of a fourth and a sizeable signing on fee - a deal Chelsea refused to give him as he turns 32 this weekend.
