Piers Morgan slams James Newman's 0 points Eurovision performance

Piers Morgan has taken aim at James Newmam in a shocking new rant on Twitter after the UK came last at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night.

Brit-winning songwriter James, and his song entry Embers wound up at the bottom of the leaderboard with the dreaded nul points after failing to score a single point from the judging panel and voting public. You can read more on the results here.

The competition, which was held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, was won by Italy with rock band Maneskin's Zitti E Buoni. France landed second place and Switzerland was just behind them in third.

In a stinging tweet to his 7.9 million followers, Piers said: "The UK didn't get 'nul points' in the Eurovision Song Contest because of some sinister revenge for Brexit.

"We got 'nul points' because we had a c**p song, performed by a c**p singer who gave a c**p performance. End."

The tweet divided Piers' followers, with many reminding the presenter to be kind.

One wrote: "I disagree it was great to see someone entering the Eurovision with such energy and passion. Well done UK. Appalling we didn't even get a point."

Another added: "It's recently been #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek so think how he would feel reading this. What happened to #BeKind. I'm in two minds about it being political. It's degrading for the UK so show some support."

James took the defeat in good humour, however, with Eurovision host Graham Norton saying it "was not the worst song in the competition by a long shot."

As the results rolled in the BBC presenter said: "Oh poor James. That isn't, I mean, I say this often, but it really isn't fair."

It's been 24 years since the UK last won Eurovision, you can read the full list of UK winners here.
