Piers Morgan slams Boris Johnson for abrupt schools U-turn

Piers Morgan has slammed Boris Johnson for ‘disrupting everyone’s lives’ with an u-turn over the opening of schools in England.

The GMB presenter hit out at the Prime Minister for allowing schools to return for just one day, describing the decision as 'utterly insane'.

The PM had previously stated there was no doubt in his mind that schools were safe in the areas where they were open.

However, as pressure mounted, Mr Johnson made a massive u-turn and ordered schools to shut and take up remote learning less than 24 hours later.

Highlighting the issue, Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan questioned the reopening of schools for one day after Christmas.

He went on to question the PM further asking ‘why do you do this?’

Boris Johnson addressed the nation last night implementing a third national lockdown in less than a year and closed schools at least until mid-February.

In his speech the Prime Minister said: “Primary schools, secondary schools and colleges across England must move to remote provision from tomorrow accept for vulnerable children and the children of key workers.”

Appearing on GMB today, Piers Morgan questioned the delay in making this decision. He said: “Sorry Prime Minister, how did they go from being completely safe on Sunday and yesterday morning to being so dangerous they all have to be closed?

“We know the answer, the answer is you eventually got to the right decision because the case numbers of this variant of COVID-19 are exploding, we can see that, we could see that before Sunday.

“We could all see the numbers. Why? Why do you do this? Why do you send all the kids and disrupt everybody’s lives, completely unnecessarily, teachers, parents, kids, everything for one day?”
