Piers Morgan slams Boris Johnson as Keir Starmer calls for end to GMB boycott

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan praised Labour party leader Keir Starmer for appearing on the show, amid an ongoing "boycott" from the government.

Following a series of "train wreck" interviews and clashes between Piers and MPs on the show many have refused to go on the live show.

One moment during the last general election campaign saw Piers and co-presenter Susanna Reid mock Boris after attempting to speak with him on air, only for him to "hide in a fridge".

It's now been 62 days according to the hosts since the boycott began amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Piers had grilled different government ministers over failures in the way the UK handled Covid-19, and lockdown rules.

Speaking on the show on Monday, Keir shared the importance he felt for coming on the show - and stated Boris should too.

Appearing to disagree with the GMB boycott, he said members of the government should be on the show and "should take responsibility".

He took aim at Boris' lack of responsibility amid the virus, and encouraged MPs to do the programme to get their message across to the public.

He explained: "Piers they haven't been on your show in I don't know how long now... the government, they should be on, the messaging is important.

"They should be using every opportunity to get their message across to the British people who have done amazing things in this crisis.

"They should be on the programme, they should be getting their message across and they're not doing it."

It's then that Piers slammed the prime minister over the boycott, as well as the way the government dealt with the pandemic.

He said: "They didn't like getting tough questions about the way they were handling the pandemic, but I'm sorry when the death toll, as you say, is now the worst in Europe and second worst in the world, and on every metric we have been so bad in my opinion.

"I don't say that as in a political way."

Keir then added: "If you want to be a leader you have to take responsibility and that's where this prime minister has really struggled.

"I come on your show knowing you are going to ask me questions but I take decisions, people will take a view on them but I've got a responsibility to come on and answer."

Piers concluded: "I totally agree, and I don't think any capable or smart politician need worry about coming on Good Morning Britain."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
