Piers Morgan slams 'annoying' Edwina Currie as she predicts virus will vanish in six months

Piers Morgan got embroiled in a nasty row with former MP Edwina Currie on Good Morning Britain as she accused him of wasting time during the interview.

Edwina pretended to check her watch as she told Piers to hurry up and stop talking, riling him up and leading to him branding her "annoying".

"I don't know why you pride yourself on being irritating," he added.

They were debating COVID-19 in the hospitality industry amid a new 10pm curfew for pubs as coronavirus cases rise.

Bar owner Jonathan Downey said there is evidence that transmission is not happening in hospitality venues.

He believes a million jobs could be lost in the hospitality sector despite being "experts at customer and food safety".

He said: "Four and a half million people rely on hospitality for their jobs, this is going to lead to the closure of thousands of businesses."

"They didn't predict half a million deaths, they predicted there would be 200,000 deaths back in the spring if we had not taken some action.

Meanwhile, Edwina claimed: "We have 41,000 dead, most of them older people, and we really don't want to keep having to have those reports.

"I'll tell you what my prediction is, that in six month's time we will be out of this, and the six months was actually mentioned by the scientists yesterday.

"We are talking about going right through the winter, it's not going to just be a few days or weeks, it's going right through the winter until we actually have workable vaccines and millions people vaccined.

"So you can have me back on March 23rd which will be be the anniversary of lockdown in the UK, and we will see if I am right.

She added: "This virus hates hot weather, it loves cold weather, and it loves getting at people who are vulnerable so we have to be careful, we don't have any choice.
