Piers Morgan slammed for questioning Doctor Hilary Jones' coronavirus guidance

Piers Morgan has been blasted by irate Good Morning Britain viewers for questioning Doctor Hilary Jones during a debate on coronavirus.

Not for the first time, Piers has rubbed GMB fans up the wrong way with his behaviour towards guests on the breakfast show, this time Doctor Hilary, who has appeared on the programme numerous times over the past few weeks as coronavirus continues to spread across the UK at an alarming rate.

After alarming Kate Garraway with a statement about the pandemic on Friday, Doctor Hilary returned to the show to give an explanation why the Government had chosen not to close schools yet.

He said: "The time to close schools is when we get a hotspot where we know there's a lot of the virus and a lot of infections and it would be sensible to close schools in that particular area. But when we stop testing, we don't know where those hotspots rare."

The Mirror reports that Piers interjected to point out that New York had closed schools but London "has no idea what to do".

As the presenter continued to rant, Dr Hilary pointed out: "We will only know which is the correct approach in many months to come."

"We may never know!" Piers interrupted. As the doctor continued to try and explain, Piers struggled to contain his anger at the British Government's "inaction".

Coronavirus: Dr Hilary explains how to self-isolate

Viewers at home were left fuming at Piers. One tweeted: "Thank god for Dr Hillary - he’s the voice of reason, telling Piers what 90% of us already know - that he’s wrong #gmb."

While another commented: "#GMB - it's almost irresponsible public service to have Piers Morgan on. Let the expert speak and explain the decisions made - just because we're not doing exactly what Italy is doing, it doesn't mean what we're doing isn't right for our context and our place in the corona cycle."
