Emotional Piers Morgan shares award with 'extra wife' Susanna Reid as they reunite

Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan had an “emotional” reunion with Susanna Reid - who he quipped is his “extra wife” who “doesn’t even get the good bits”.

“And they are very good bits,” he laughed.

The pair reunited for the first time since he quit the show in March after bosses asked him to apologise for comments made about Meghan Markle ’s interview with Oprah, which drew over 50,000 complaints.

The ITV star invited her to share his win for Best News Presenter - which she was also nominated for - crediting the “remarkable” team that put the breakfast show together during the pandemic at the TRIC awards in London today.

"He can start an argument in an empty room,” Susanna laughed on stage. “I’ve never known anyone get so worked up over a sausage roll.”

Piers said the pair developed “close bonds” during the pandemic, adding: “It felt it was right to share with Susanna.

“I haven’t seen Susanna since I left so it was very emotional. You get very close to someone when you work that closely together.

“Not many men have seen Susanna Reid at 5am in her curlers.”

However, he couldn’t resist a dig at his former employers, who screened an interview with former IS bride Shamima Begum yesterday morning.

“It’s ironic they had an ISIS terror bride spouting off her opinions when I wasn’t allowed to,” scoffed Piers - who ruled out an return to the show.

“I wonder if ITV will be asking her for an apology.”

He added his win - which came after Ofcom ruled in his favour - was “a vindication of free speech”. “That’s what democracies are supposed to be built on,” he added.
