Piers Morgan sets sights on Corrie role after fans thought he appeared in ITV soap

Piers Morgan is eyeing up a job on Coronation Street.

The former Good Morning Britain host has even issued a 'come and get me' plea to bosses at the ITV soap.

It comes after it was announced he will join News Corp and Fox News Media in a deal which will see him host a new global TV show and publish two weekly columns online for the New York Post and The Sun.

But the 56-year-old's dream is actually to play Corrie's new womaniser.

He told the Daily Star Sunday : "I’d love to be a soap star and Corrie would be my first choice, my grandmother used to love that show.

"I see myself as a suave silver fox perched on the chair at the bar in the Rovers Return.

"My ideal love interest would be Kym Marsh, but she’s left the show now. So if I join I’ll have to find a new lady to go for."

And it wouldn't be the first time Piers has been on the cobbles - sort of.

Fans were shocked earlier this year when a look-a-like turned up on Corrie.

Viewers did a double-take when a Welsh businessman turned up at the Rovers Return for a look around as a potential buyer.

Soap watchers thought he was a dead ringer for the TV presenter, who left the GMB in March following a row over comments he made about Meghan Markle.

The look-a-like appeared in scenes with scheming Daisy Midgeley, played by Charlotte Jordan, as she attempted to see off the potential buyer for the Rovers.

And the controversial journalist has also had a mention on the soap.

Fans of the ITV soap were in hysterics at the shout-out to the channel's former breakfast show host.

Seb Franklin was rather cutting about Piers as he chatted with cafe owner Roy Cropper.

Kindly Roy approached Seb in the cafe to talk about his budding relationship with his niece Nina Lucas.

"Can I be candid?" he asked.

And Seb quipped: "You can be whoever you like as long as it's not Piers Morgan because he does my nut in."
