Piers Morgan sends coronavirus message to Mikel Arteta after he contracts illness

Piers Morgan has sent his best wishes to Mikel Arteta after the Arsenal boss contracted the coronavirus.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, who is a life-long Arsenal fan, tweeted: "Sending my very best wishes to Mikel Arteta for a speedy recovery from COVID-19, and any other Arsenal players and staff who may be infected.

"Worrying time for them and all their families. Football doesn't matter, their health does."

The Premier League and English Football League are holding emergency meetings on Friday morning to determine whether to suspend games for the foreseeable future in a bid to tackle the spread of COVID-19.

A decision will be made imminently.

Arsenal manager Arteta fell sick on Tuesday, which resulted in him missing training on Wednesday. The Spaniard took the test, and received a positive result on Thursday night.

"This is really disappointing but I took the test after feeling poorly. I will be at work as soon as I'm allowed," said Arteta.

Arsenal's managing director Vinai Venkatesham added: "The health of our people and the wider public is our priority and that is where our focus is.

"Our thoughts are with Mikel who is disappointed but in good spirits.

"We are in active dialogue with all the relevant people to manage this situation appropriately, and we look forward to getting back to training and playing as soon as medical advice allows."
