Piers Morgan seething as GMB loses out on Royal TV Society award as Scarlett Moffatt scoops win

Piers Morgan has once again proven himself a sore loser as he seethes after being overlooked for “yet another” award.

The Good Morning Britain presenter seemed to get his hopes up ahead of Monday night’s Royal Television Society awards.

The ceremony was live streamed amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as mass gatherings are banned.

Before the awards, Piers confidently joked: "This, of course, will be the time @GMB finally wins..."

But it wasn’t to be Piers’ lucky night as his breakfast show, which was nominated in the best Daytime Programme category, missed out.

The gong was instead awarded to BBC’s The Repair Shop, for the show’s “passion [that] pours through the screen”.

The RTS judges praised the winning show: “Produced with great confidence and real commitment, it’s a show that feels just right for today’s audience.”

Ever the humble loser, Piers took to Twitter to slam the decision.

He wrote: “BREAKING: @GMB fails to win yet another award."

Other winners of the night included Scarlett Moffatt, whose Channel 4 show The British Tribe Next Door won best Formatted Popular Factual show.

It beat Celebrity Gogglebox and The Circle to the prize.

The show came under fire after it showed Scarlett moving in with a Himba tribe but the judges said it was "genuinely innovative, bravely breaking new ground as a format, an idea realised and executed impeccably well".

A delighted Scarlett said on Instagram : "Omg we won. Wow thank you so much can't believe it."

Elsewhere, Phoebe Waller-Bridge scooped the gong for best comedy writer, Casualty won best soap and continuing drama, and Stormzy collected a win for his Live Event At Glastonbury 2019.
