Piers Morgan has said Kate Garraway is living in a "terrible limbo" after it was revealed her husband may never recover from his coma.
Derek Draper first went into hospital in March last year and was later placed in a coma after testing positive for coronavirus.
The 53-year-old's battle is now one of the longest in the UK and after 11 months, Kate said earlier this week she 'doesn't know how much he can recover.'
Speaking in The Sun's latest TV mag, Piers said his "heart breaks" for his fellow Good Morning Britain star and friend.
"I was going to come to Kate, obviously we've had it right at our desk on Good Morning Britain," he said.
"I can remember it happening, it was on my birthday when I heard, March 30, that he’d been taken to hospital.
"We just hoped he would make a quick recovery, you know he's 52, he didn't have any underlying conditions, and he's still in a coma now.
"It's talked about that he may never come out of it, she doesn't know, she's living in this terrible limbo."

Piers went on to heartbreakingly reveal his co-star and Derek were 'happier than ever' prior to his ill health.
"The last time I saw Derek was at my annual Christmas pub party. They were there, Kate had just done the jungle and she came back and a week later she came to my pub party with Derek," Piers explained.
"They were in all the papers because she was so hot from the jungle at the time. I've never seen them happier, they were going to review their wedding vows. Then that happened.
"Kate went from being on top of the world to being at the bottom of the world. My heart breaks for her. And it carries on breaking for her. It’s a nightmare for her."
His update comes as GMB viewers expressed concern about Kate's absence from the ITV news programme.
ITV confirmed Kate, 53, was on annual leave on Friday (February 5).
