Piers Morgan says Kate Garraway is in 'living hell' as husband Derek remains in coma

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has described co-star Kate Garraway as going through a "living hell".

The television journalist, 55, has spoken of the difficult situation Kate is facing as her husband Derek Draper remains in a coma as he continues to battle with the coronavirus.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, Piers sent his best wishes and revealed his great admiration for his colleague.

Piers said: "We haven't talked about it much because Kate Garraway is going through a living hell like many people.

"Her husband has been in a very serious condition for many many weeks.

"We can all just hope and pray he comes through it, but it's been very, very difficult for Kate and her family.

"We miss her here at the show, but obviously we stay in touch with her a lot.

"We send her and the kids all our love and we just wish Derek all the very best."

Mr Morgan wasn't the only one to speak about the health battle that Kate's husband is currently facing.

Piers' co-host Susanna Reid added: "We haven't said much, we leave it up to Kate because she updates fans on Thursdays after the Clap for Carers and then Ben Shephard updates viewers the next day."

On last Thursday's Clap for Carers, Kate revealed on Instagram that she was FaceTiming the hospital in the hope that Derek could hear the support he was receiving.

She explained: "So our #nhsclap  was a little different tonight.

"We still clapped & cheered as much as ever but I couldn’t film on my phone as had Derek on FaceTime throughout! - of course we can’t KNOW but I believe he can hear us & thought at least the incredible @nhs team’s looking after him would hear a fraction of our gratitude."

Piers and Susanna shared their support for Kate (ITV)

Kate is currently remaining at home with her children Darcey and Billy, having stepped down from her duties at Good Morning Britain during her husband's health battle.

She has been married to former lobbyist Derek since 2005.

Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays on ITV.
