Piers Morgan says he was ‘disappointed’ by Susanna Reid’s reaction to Good Morning Britain walk-off

Piers Morgan has admitted that he was “disappointed” that Susanna Reid apologised during his final Good Morning Britain appearance.

The TV host left the ITV daytime programme last month after walking out of a heated exchange with Alex Beresford.

The weather presenter had accused Morgan of “trashing” Meghan Markle following her Oprah Winfrey interview, with Morgan’s co-host Reid apologising to their viewers for his comments.

Appearing in his first on-air interview since his GMB departure on Monday (5 April) night, Morgan told Tucker Carlson that he understood why Reid apologised even if he was “disappointed” by the comments.

“Susanna, my co-host for five years, is a good friend of mine,” he said.

“I honestly think she was in the grip of fear. I think she was fearful that if she went too far saying nice things about me, the same thing might happen to her.”

He continued: “There would be a huge Twitter pile on by an orchestrated mob.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Morgan lashed out at Beresford, accusing the weather presenter of a “premeditated attack” after he criticised Morgan for “trashing” Markle.

Speaking to Carlson, Morgan referred to his former GMB co-star as “the stand-in weather guy who does the weather occasionally”.

“He sent me a private message in which he expressed some concern about what he felt I wasn’t really understanding about where Meghan Markle was coming from as a biracial woman,” Morgan said.

“He is himself a biracial man so he wanted to explain so I said, ‘Come on air, let’s have the conversation.’ But the moment he came on air, he came with a pretty premeditated attack on me on a pretty personal level and frankly I just wasn’t going to have it.”
