Piers Morgan says he still doesn't believe Meghan Markle had suicidal thoughts

Piers Morgan still doesn't believe Meghan Markle considered taking her own life.

The host quit Good Morning Britain following backlash to his comments about her explosive Oprah Winfrey interview.

But he refuses to back down – despite his exit and on-air row with colleague Alex Beresford.

Returning to twitter this morning, he posted: "On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.

"I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK.

"Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions."

He suddenly quit Good Morning Britain on Tuesday night.

It came 12 hours after an explosive on-screen row with colleague Alex Beresford.

ITV said in a statement: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Hours after ITV's bombshell statement, the host took to Twitter to share a beaming photograph with his late manager John Ferriter, who he said would have approved his decision to stand down.

John had been Piers' close friend and advisor before his sudden death in 2019 at the age of 55.

Remembering his friend at the latest dramatic turning point in his TV career, Piers reflected on how John might have reacted at hearing he was leaving ITV daytime following the furore over his Meghan Markle comments.

Piers tweeted: "Thinking of my late, great manager John Ferriter tonight. He’d have told me to do exactly the same thing.

" @GMB #TrustYourGut," added the unapologetic star.
