Piers Morgan says he’d have beaten coronavirus crisis if he was Prime Minister

Piers Morgan believes how he would have overcome the the coronavirus crisis if was the UK Prime Minister.

The former newspaper editor, 55, launched into a fiery rant on Wednesday morning's Good Morning Britain as he explained that his plan of action, if he was in charge, would have included "draconian" methods and more testing.

Piers' action plan was unveiled as he grilled Doctor Hilary about the ongoing care home crisis during the pandemic.

As the COVID-19 infection rate and death toll numbers continue to be released, and have soared over the past two months, one of the biggest affected sectors is care homes.

While Hilary admitted he wasn't sure why he was defending the situation, as he agreed it was a complete tragedy and something needing looking into, he did want to share "the facts" in terms of why things went the way they did.

The outspoken broadcaster, who has publicly slammed the governments response to the pandemic, shared his thoughts on how to combat the epidemic after GMB'S Hilary quizzed him on what he would have done differently.

Piers raged: "I would have changed absolutely everything.

"I would have looked at China and South Korea and realised testing was key... this should have been done years before, after we went through a pandemic exercise.

"I’d have locked down at the same time countries got on top of this lockdown and done it properly, not piecemeal.

"I’d have been for more draconian at airports.

On Monday morning Piers took aim at prime minister Boris Johnson's latest advice, which he called an "absolute disgrace" and a "total scandal".

His tirades included a rant at Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen, who claimed the government's advice was "very clear".

Boris addressed the nation on Sunday evening to set out new lockdown rules as the government attempted to lay out an exit strategy two months on.

But all the message did was confuse the public further, with many unsure what they could and couldn't do.

Boris also replaced the "stay at home" slogan with "stay alert" without a clear definition of what that meant.

Amid fears the new comments will only drive more people out of lockdown amid the ongoing pandemic, Piers and Susanna Reid lashed out at Boris and the government.

They had on Tory MP Bridgen, who told them: "The address was very clear and I think you're insulting the public's intelligence. It's clear to deal with this virus he's laid out the five tests."

Piers asked him if he could see his sons if he kept his distance and he said yes, which angered the TV host.

He said: "This is the problem Andrew Bridgen, you see what you've just said is completely against the new rules as stated.

"There you are a Conservative member of parliament who thinks he knows exactly what Boris Johnson has been saying and yet you've just told me to do something I'm not allowed to do.

Piers recently said that he hold PM Boris Johnson accountable for the 'absolute shambles' of the crisis (PA)

"This is the problem isn't it? It's a lot of old flannel talking about controlling the virus and you, as a leading high profile Conservative politician, haven't got a clue about what these rules actually mean and you're an MP. You're part of this!"

Ranting about the death toll, he continued: "It's an absolute national disgrace when you compare it to any other control in the world.

"We've had no testing - our deputy chief medical officer said we didn't need testing,  it wasn't appropriate, so we stopped doing it which was a total scandal."

He went on: "I'm holding Boris Johnson to account for a shambles, an absolute shambles from start to finish."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
