Piers Morgan says he and 'brilliant' Susanna Reid are 'closer than ever'

Piers Morgan wants Good Morning Britain’s new Christmas Day show to be up there with the Queen’s speech as a festive fixture.

The presenter, 25, said: “I love Christmas and obviously this year is going to be a bit different given the Covid situation.

“So it will be nice to bring a bit of cheer, especially to those who may be on their own.

“Like a turkey, the Queen and James Corden, it’s great to finally be part of the nation’s big festive celebrations.

"I can confidently predict a lot of festive silliness, some great guests, and a tear or two.”

Morgan also told how he and Susanna Reid, 50, have become tighter as a presenting duo after holding the Government to account over its handling of the pandemic this year.

He said: “I feel like Susanna and I had each other’s backs during some very difficult shows.

"She’s brilliant and I hugely value our often brutally honest friendship, on-screen and off.

"It’s been the toughest year work-wise I can remember, though of course, nothing compared to what health and care workers have been through.

“It’s not been easy but it’s been very rewarding. I think we’ve all felt the huge burden of responsibility to inform and guide our viewers through this turbulent, troubling time and I’m proud of how we’ve done it.”

Morgan and Reid are not the only ITV Daytime stars hitting screens on Christmas Day.

Lorraine Kelly will front Lorraine at 9am and at 10am Phillip Schofield and Holly Willougby host a This Morning special.

You can watch GMB weekdays on ITV and on Christmas morning from 7am.
