Piers Morgan is known for rubbing people the wrong way, but this time he appears to have left his wife reeling after making a joke that fell flat on its face.
The Good Morning Britain host’s wife Celia Walden was left unimpressed after he cheekily quipped that he would sleep with co-star Susanna Reid if they were both single.
The 54-year-old made the remark in a new interview for Event magazine, boasting: “Well if we were both single we’d be at it like stoats in a sack."
In an attempt to redeem himself, he quickly added: “With other people, of course…”
However, only the first half of his eyebrow-raising comment made it to the front cover of the magazine, leaving his long-suffering wife grimacing.
Sharing a photo of the front cover, 43-year-old Celia wrote: “The headline every wife wants to read on a Sunday morning #mythoughtsarewithsusanna.”
Celia is Piers’ second wife, with the pair marrying in 2010 and having one daughter.
Piers regularly leaves co-host Susanna blushing with his endless on-screen flirting, with the presenter joking about her fancying him.
However the pair revealed they suffered a year of tension as they struggled to gel on and off camera, describing their TV marriage as “tempestuous”.
Piers told Event: “She was the queen bee and I was the alpha male.
"I felt I needed to shake her up a bit. But then I realised it went a bit too far."
